Zoology students as volunteers in cancer detection camp

organized by Adv. Rasheeds charitable trust

Department of Zoology

26 November 2023

Ten students from our department actively participated as volunteers in a cancer detection camp organized by Adv. Rasheed's Charitable trust in association with Regional Cancer Centre Thiruvananthapuram on 26/11/2023. The camp aimed to provide early detection and awareness about cancer to the community, especially to those who might not have easy access to healthcare services.

The volunteers assisted in the registration process, ensuring that each participant filled out the necessary forms correctly. They also provided guidance on the different stages of the camp and the services offered.

The volunteers conducted informative sessions on cancer prevention, using visual aids and brochures to make the information more accessible and understandable to the participants.

During the screening process, the volunteers provided logistical support by organizing the queue, ensuring a smooth flow of participants, and assisting the medical staff as needed.

Recognizing the emotional impact of cancer screenings, the volunteers offered empathetic support to participants, reassuring them and providing a comforting presence throughout the process.

The volunteers helped in maintaining accurate records of the participants, including their demographic information, screening results, and follow-up recommendations. This data management was crucial for the organizers to assess the effectiveness of the camp and plan future initiatives.

At the end of the camp, the volunteers collected feedback from the participants to evaluate their experience and gather suggestions for improvement. This feedback would be instrumental in refining future camps and ensuring better service delivery.

The involvement of student volunteers from our department significantly contributed to the success of the cancer detection camp organized by the said Organization. Through their dedication, compassion, and hard work, they not only facilitated the smooth functioning of the camp but also played a vital role in raising awareness about cancer and empowering the community to take proactive steps towards their health.

Such initiatives highlight the importance of volunteerism in addressing societal challenges and fostering a culture of service and compassion among the youth.
