Study Tour Report: Chemistry & IC to Kodaikanal, Marayur,
and Munnar

The
Postgraduate Department of Chemistry, by organized a study tour for
fifth-semester Chemistry and IC students from November 2-5, 2023 with Dr. T.
Sreeja and Dr. V. Sreeja as tour coordinators. The tour covered three prominent
destinations: Kodaikanal, Marayur, and Munnar, offering a comprehensive
experience that blended academic learning with practical exposure.
The
journey commenced in the evening of November 2, with students boarding the bus
filled with excitement and enthusiasm. The first destination was Kodaikanal,
known for its picturesque landscapes and cool climate. Upon arrival, students
were taken to the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, where they learned about solar
astronomy and the functioning of the observatory.
After
a brief lunch break, the group visited the Kodaikanal Lake, where they had the
opportunity to relax and enjoy boating. In the evening, a visit to the Coaker's
Walk provided a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and valleys, making
it a perfect end to the first day.
The
second day began with a visit to the Marayur Sandalwood Forests, where students
learned about the cultivation and extraction of sandalwood. This was followed
by a visit to the Thoovanam Waterfalls, offering a refreshing experience amidst
nature's beauty. The day concluded with a bonfire and cultural program,
allowing students to unwind and interact with each other.
On
the third day, the group proceeded to Munnar, a renowned hill station famous
for its tea gardens. The day started with a visit to the Tea Factory, where
students learned about the history of tea cultivation in the region and the
process of tea production.
Afterwards,
the group visited the Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point, offering scenic views of
the surrounding hills and valleys. The day ended with a visit to the Top
Station, the highest point in Munnar, providing panoramic views of the Western
Ghats.
The
study tour to Kodaikanal, Marayur, and Munnar provided students with a holistic
learning experience and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
