KANALFEST-2023: Self-defence training &
debate (NSS-TKMMC)
National Service Scheme in association with Women and Child
Development Department, Government of Kerala conducted an awareness campaign on
17-08-2023 at seminar hall for students against sexism and exploitation of
women and child against sexual, physical and mental abuses. College principal
Dr. P. P. Sharmila presided over the meeting and Smt. Sijoy Thomas, District Mission
Coordinator, Mission Sakthi delivered the welcome address. Smt Sahini S S, Child
Development Project Officer, Mavelikara inaugurated the session followed by
self defence class for girls students organised by Kerala police crime branch
and demonstrated by Smt Sulekha Prasad , Asst Sub inspector , Crime Branch Alapuzha.
Students effectively participated in the class and was followed by a heated
debate on the topic “Benevolent Sexism’’ moderated by Ms Athira M Raj,
Assistant Professor, Dept of English. Students effectively defended their
points for and against the topic. NSS program Officer Mr Sanoop Sivaraman
conveyed vote of thanks for the gathering.
The awareness campaign against sexism and
exploitation of women and children organized by the National Service Scheme, in
association with the Women and Child Development Department, Government of
Kerala, proved to be a significant step in addressing these critical issues.
Through self-defense training and a stimulating debate, the event not only
educated students but also empowered them to be vigilant, informed, and proactive
advocates against sexism and exploitation. The campaign underlined the
importance of collaborative efforts in building a safer and more respectful
society for all.
