Snehayanam: T.K.M.M. College Bids a Heartfelt Farewell to Esteemed Staff

  

                                                

On March 31, 2026, the Seminar Hall of T.K. Madhava Memorial (T.K.M.M.) College, Nangiarkulangara, was filled with gratitude and nostalgia as the Staff Association (2025-26) hosted "Snehayanam"—a grand farewell meeting to honor two of its highly respected retiring members.

The event celebrated the decades of dedication, hard work, and leadership provided by Prof. Dr. Sheela S, Head of the Zoology Department, and Smt. Rajalakshmi P.R., the Office Superintendent.

🌟 The Honorees

• Prof. Dr. Sheela S: Retiring as the Head of the Zoology Department, Dr. Sheela has been a guiding light for countless students and a pillar of academic excellence within the institution.

• Smt. Rajalakshmi P.R.: Serving as the Office Superintendent, Smt. Rajalakshmi's tireless administrative support and efficiency have kept the college running smoothly behind the scenes.

The ceremony ran from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, featuring a beautifully structured program filled with touching speeches and fond memories.

• Welcome Speech: Delivered by Preetha M.V., Secretary of the Staff Association, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the morning.

• Presidential Address: Given by Divya P. Bhadran, President of the Staff Association.

• Inaugural Address: The event was officially inaugurated by the College Principal, Dr. Venu S, who highlighted the invaluable contributions of the retiring staff.

The highlight of "Snehayanam" was the formal honoring ceremony. As seen in the memorable photographs, both Prof. Dr. Sheela S and Smt. Rajalakshmi P.R. were presented with customized mementos and beautifully draped with traditional ceremonial shawls (ponnada) by the college leadership.

Following the honors, the retirees took the podium for their Farewell Reply Speeches. Their words, filled with emotion and gratitude, reflected upon their long, fulfilling journeys at T.K.M.M. College.

The official proceedings concluded with a warm Vote of Thanks delivered by Indu Balachandran (HOD, English).

The event wrapped up with a grand group photograph. The retiring honorees, wearing bright "Retirement" sashes, sat at the center, surrounded by the entire teaching and non-teaching staff. It was a beautiful visual representation of the close-knit community at T.K.M.M. College.

We wish Prof. Dr. Sheela S and Smt. Rajalakshmi P.R. a very happy, healthy, and peaceful retirement. Your T.K.M.M. family will deeply miss you!

               

Study Tour to Coorg – Belur – Udupi (2023 Adm.) Department of Mathematics & Department of Physics

 

                                                                                 

 

The Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics jointly organized a five-day study tour to Coorg, Belur, and Udupi. The tour was conducted under the leadership and guidance of the Heads of the respective Departments, Dr. Sinumol S (Department of Mathematics) and Dr. Tintu R(Department of Physics).

A total of 15 students participated in the programme, including 4 students from the Department of Mathematics and 11 students from the Department of Physics. The travel arrangements were efficiently managed by Anizham Travels under the coordination of Mr. Jomin.

Day 1 – Departure and Journey

The tour commenced on Day 1 with the team boarding the Nethravathi Express (Train No. 16346) from Kayamkulam Railway Station at 11:10 AM. The journey itself was filled with excitement, conversations, songs, games, and enjoyable moments shared among the participants and faculty members.

  

The team reached Mangalore Junction at approximately 10:45 PM. At 11:15 PM, the group was received by the bus arranged by Anizham Travels, and the overnight journey towards Coorg began.

Day 2 – Exploring the Beauty of Coorg

The team arrived at Dreamy Vacation Resort, Kushalnagar, Coorg at around 4:00 AM and checked into the resort for rest. After refreshing themselves, breakfast was served at 10:00 AM.

At 11:00 AM, the team visited the scenic Harangi Dam, surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful landscapes. The cool climate and mist-covered hills of Coorg, popularly known as the “Scotland of India,” created a refreshing and memorable experience for everyone.

 

The next destination was the famous Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery). The team was deeply impressed by the magnificent Tibetan architecture, colourful paintings, giant golden Buddha statues, and the calm spiritual atmosphere prevailing inside the monastery. The visit provided both cultural and spiritual enrichment to the participants.

  Lunch was arranged at 1:30 PM, followed by a visit to the Bamboo Forest area and local shopping centres. The team enjoyed exploring traditional handicrafts, spices, chocolates, and souvenirs unique to Coorg.

 In the evening, a lively DJ session was organized at the resort. Both students and faculty members actively participated and enjoyed the music, dance, and entertainment programmes together. Dinner was served afterwards, making the day highly enjoyable and memorable.

 Day 3 – Adventure and Heritage Experience

The third day began early with checkout from Dreamy Vacation Resort at 5:30 AM. The team then travelled towards Belur for adventure activities and sightseeing.

During the morning session, the participants enthusiastically engaged in water sports activities including river rafting, kayaking, and banana boat rides. These activities encouraged teamwork, confidence, courage, and cooperation among the members of the tour team. Safety measures were strictly followed throughout the programme.

Lunch was provided at 1:00 PM. At 2:30 PM, the team visited the historic Channakeshava Temple at Belur, one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. The intricate stone carvings, artistic sculptures, ancient craftsmanship, and historical significance of the temple fascinated everyone. The visit offered an opportunity to appreciate India’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.

 At around 4:00 PM, the team continued their journey towards Udupi through the scenic Western Ghats. The beautiful valleys, winding roads, waterfalls, dense greenery, and mist-covered hills added charm to the journey and made the travel experience unforgettable.

The team reached Kasturba Residency, Udupi at approximately 8:30 PM. After check-in, dinner was served and the members retired for the night.

Day 4 – Coastal Beauty and Return Journey

On the final day, the team visited the famous Udupi Sri Krishna Temple at 9:30 AM. The peaceful spiritual atmosphere, traditional customs, and architectural beauty of the temple created a culturally enriching experience for everyone.

 

At 11:00 AM, the team travelled by ferry to St. Mary’s Island and visited Malpe Beach. The island’s unique hexagonal basalt rock formations, sea breeze, clean surroundings, and natural beauty greatly attracted the participants. The ferry ride, beach visit, photography sessions, and time spent along the coastal region became some of the most enjoyable moments of the tour.

 

 The team departed from Udupi at 3:30 PM and reached Mangalore Central Railway Station at approximately 5:45 PM. Packed dinner was distributed before boarding the Malabar Express (Train No. 16630) at 6:15 PM for the return journey to Kayamkulam.

 

The team safely reached Kayamkulam Junction Railway Station at 6:30 AM, marking the successful conclusion of the study tour.

 

Exploring Future Energy: DARSHAN 2026 Seminar by the Department of Physics

 

T.K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara proudly continued its tradition of academic excellence with the latest installment of the DARSHAN Multidisciplinary Seminar Series (D'26). Organized collaboratively by the PG & Research Department of Physics and the IQAC, the event offered deep insights into cutting-edge green energy research.

The seminar focused on the critical and highly relevant topic of hydrogen production through electrocatalysis. Dr. Angelin Abraham shared her valuable perspectives as a researcher, guiding students and faculty through the intricacies of developing efficient catalysts for clean energy. Her talk shed light on the scientific challenges and future possibilities in sustainable energy solutions, making it an intellectually stimulating session for all attendees.

The DARSHAN 2025-26 series continues to be a vibrant platform for multidisciplinary learning, fostering a strong research culture and encouraging scientific curiosity among the students of T.K.M.M. College.

The Department of Mathematics celebrated International Pi Day on 23 March 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty members. The programme was coordinated by the students of III B.Sc. Mathematics under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Dr. Sinumol S, along with the encouragement and support of all faculty members of the department.

As part of the celebration, the third-year B.Sc. Mathematics students organized an attractive and informative poster exhibition based on the theme of Pi (π). The corridor walls of the department were beautifully decorated with a wide variety of colourful and creative posters prepared by the students. Each poster presented unique and interesting aspects related to Pi, making the entire exhibition highly educational as well as visually appealing.

The exhibition included posters on the history and origin of Pi, the contribution of famous mathematicians to the study of Pi, fascinating facts about Pi, different methods of value approximation, mathematical formulas involving Pi, applications of Pi in geometry and science, records related to memorizing digits of Pi, and the importance of Pi in daily life, engineering, astronomy, architecture, physics, and technology. Some posters creatively displayed the infinite and non-repeating nature of Pi, while others explained how Pi is used in circles, measurements, trigonometry, statistics, and computer science.

The students demonstrated remarkable creativity and innovation in presenting mathematical concepts in a simple, attractive, and understandable manner. The walls decorated with charts, drawings, symbols, equations, quotations, and illustrations created a vibrant academic atmosphere within the department. The exhibition reflected not only the mathematical knowledge of the students but also their artistic talents and teamwork.

Students and faculty members from various departments including Physics, Economics, Chemistry, and others visited the exhibition and appreciated the effort taken by the Mathematics students. The visitors actively interacted with the exhibitors, observed the posters with great interest, and shared their views and appreciation. The programme helped create curiosity and awareness about the significance of mathematics among students from different disciplines.

The celebration successfully transformed the department corridors into a lively centre of mathematical learning and creativity. The event encouraged students to explore mathematics beyond textbooks and classrooms and helped them understand the practical importance and universal presence of Pi in different fields of study and real-life applications.

The Head of the Department, Dr. Sinumol S, appreciated the sincere efforts and enthusiastic participation of the students. The faculty members also encouraged the students throughout the preparation and organization of the exhibition. Their guidance and motivation played a significant role in making the programme a grand success.

The Pi Day Celebration 2026 was highly informative, inspiring, and enjoyable for everyone who participated and visited the exhibition. The programme promoted mathematical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and academic interaction among students and faculty members, making the celebration memorable and meaningful.

Holi Celebration @ Dept. of Mathematics

 

The Department of Mathematics celebrated Holi 2026 on 4 March 2026 with great enthusiasm, happiness, and festive spirit. The programme was organized and led by the students of II B.Sc. Mathematics with active participation from all the students of the department.

The celebration began at 2:00 PM in a vibrant and joyful atmosphere. Students enthusiastically participated in the celebrations by applying colours on each other’s faces and sharing joyful moments together. Faces filled with bright colours, smiling expressions, laughter, and friendly interactions created a lively and memorable atmosphere throughout the department. The students celebrated the occasion with music, fun activities, dance, and cheerful gatherings, enjoying every moment of togetherness and friendship.

The celebration highlighted the true spirit of Holi — spreading happiness, unity, love, friendship, and harmony among students. The colourful faces, joyful celebrations, and energetic participation of everyone made the programme vibrant and unforgettable.

Faculty members Dr. Dhanya Shajin, Ms. Kavitha Krishnan, and Sri. Sivaprasad P.S. also participated in the celebration and encouraged the students throughout the programme. Their presence and interaction with the students added warmth and happiness to the occasion.

The programme concluded at 4:00 PM with beautiful memories and joyful moments shared by all the participants. The Holi Celebration 2026 became a colourful and memorable event for the Department of Mathematics, promoting togetherness, cultural spirit, friendship, and happiness among students and faculty members alike.
