Factshala - India Media Literacy Network: Workshop at T. K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara

                      

    The Department of English at T. K Madhava Memorial College played host to a transformative workshop on July 19th, 2023. This event, orchestrated by Factshala, India's foremost news and information literacy initiative, was meticulously designed to empower both individuals and communities, equipping them with the tools to fortify themselves against the pitfalls of misinformation.

    Commencing at 10am within the esteemed confines of the College seminar hall, a dynamic session unfolded, graced by a select assembly of students representing diverse departments. The inaugural notes were sounded by none other than Ms. Soumya V. S, the Head, Department of English, whose welcome speech resonated with warmth and enthusiasm.

    The training was given by the accomplished researcher and discerning fact-checker, Mr. Habeeb Rahman Y. P. A dual identity emerged as he took the reins – not only a Factshala trainer but also an erudite academician continually immersed in the seamless integration of technology with the art of pedagogy. In his capable hands, the workshop unfurled a comprehensive discourse, elucidating the realms of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, each concept navigated with precision and clarity.

    Dissolving the boundaries between theory and practice, a series of engaging tasks and activities punctuated the instructional journey, orchestrated to harmonize with the earnest involvement of the students. Their discerning contributions formed the very fabric of these enlightening moments, culminating in a shared exploration of facts within the contours of news disseminated through the expansive landscape of social media.

    Eminently enriching and invigorating, this workshop catalyzed a profound shift in the participants' ability to discern truth, and concurrently, honed their acumen for critical analysis – a transformational experience in every sense.

  The entirety of the English department's faculty graced the workshop with their presence. The culmination of the program took place around 1:00pm in the afternoon, marked by a constructive feedback session from the students, followed by a vote of thanks extended by Ms. Athira M. Raj, Assistant Professor of the Department of English, who spoke on behalf of the college.
