Onnichonam
A Festival of Togetherness in TKMMC
Onam is the most significant festival of Kerala, celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. It
symbolizes the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali and marks the harvest season in the
state. This year, the Onam celebrations at TKMMC took place on 12/09/24. The Onam
celebration was marked by various traditional events and activities, reflecting the rich cultural
heritage of Kerala. The festivities organized by DISHA Students’ Union included:
· Pookalam (Flower Decoration) Competition : Beautiful floral carpets were made in every
department using vibrant flowers, showcasing artistic skills of students and symbolizing
unity and prosperity.
· Cultural programs- Various cultural programs were organized, including traditional dance
forms such as Thiruvathira . Music and dance performances and folk games like
Vadamvali and Uriyadi added to the vibrant atmosphere.
· Community Involvement: The celebration also emphasized community bonding. The
NSS volunteers of TKMMC distributed Onam kits with essential groceries to families
with differently abled kids and elderly people in the neighborhood.
The Onam celebration was a resounding success, characterized by vibrant displays of cultural
heritage, communal harmony, and a spirit of joy and gratitude. It served as a reminder of the
values of togetherness, hospitality, and the importance of tradition in our lives.
