Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) in association
with zoology dept of T.K.Madhava Memorial College,arranged a seminar on "Democracy - Scientific
Awareness," was held on October 5,
2023, at the Seminar Hall of TKMMC.
The Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP)
is a prominent science and literature organization based in the Indian state of
Kerala. Established in 1962, it is known for its significant contributions to
the popularization of scientific knowledge among the masses, especially in the
Malayalam-speaking region. KSSP is involved in various activities like
organizing seminars, workshops, and campaigns to promote scientific awareness
and critical thinking. It has played a crucial role in bridging the gap between
scientific research and the public, making science more accessible and relevant
to everyday life. Additionally, KSSP has been at the forefront of advocating
for sustainable and socially responsible science policies. Over the years, it
has emerged as a leading force in the realm of science communication and
education in Kerala.
The
seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. Sheela, who extended
her heartfelt greetings to all attendees and emphasized the importance of
scientific awareness in fostering a democratic society. She highlighted the
role of education and knowledge dissemination in this context.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. P. K.
Raveendran, who illuminated the audience with his insightful perspectives on
the interplay between democracy and scientific knowledge. His inaugural address
set a thoughtful tone for the subsequent sessions.
Dr. Ratheesh Krishna, the distinguished
resource person, captivated the audience with his profound insights into the
intricate relationship between democracy and scientific awareness. His
presentation shed light on the pivotal role science plays in shaping democratic
societies.
The
event witnessed the gracious presence of several esteemed dignitaries,
including Dr. P. P. Sharmila, the Principal of TKMMC, and Dr. S. R. Rajeev,
representing the AKPCTA. Their valuable presence added a distinct stature to
the occasion.The seminar saw enthusiastic participation from students across
various disciplines, demonstrating their keen interest in the intersection of
democracy and scientific knowledge.A total of 126 participants including public
was present. Their active involvement enriched the discussions and added
vitality to the event.
The seminar on "Democracy - Scientific
Awareness" was an unquestionable success. The event provided a significant
platform for intellectual exchange and reflection on the vital role of
scientific knowledge in democratic societies.
