In a fantastic community outreach initiative, the PG Department of Chemistry organized a dedicated hands-on workshop for local high school students titled "Science in Every Drop – Exploring Water Quality Through Simple Experiments." This event was conducted as part of the STREAM Ecosystem Project (Spadikam 2025–26).
Guided by Head of Department Smt. Aswathy S. P., Coordinator Dr. Anju S. Appukuttan, and their dedicated organizing committee, the workshop bridged the gap between theoretical science and practical application.
Visiting high schoolers transitioned from classroom orientations to active laboratory experiments. Under the careful supervision of the college faculty and chemistry students, the young learners gained practical exposure to:
Physicochemical parameters of water
Testing for pH, Hardness, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), COD, and BOD
Proper sampling and testing methodologies
Basic instrumental analysis
The interactive sessions, filled with color-changing titrations and lab equipment demonstrations, successfully sparked scientific curiosity and emphasized the critical importance of water quality monitoring to the next generation of potential scientists.
