Mind Matters: A Mental Health Awareness Session by Jeevani @ Department of Mathematics

As part of the Jeevani initiative, psychologist Ms. Noora M conducted a mental health awareness session for the first and second-year students of the Department of Mathematics on 03.07.2025. The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of mental health and highlight its significance in both academic and personal life.

Ms. Noora began by explaining the concept of mental health in simple, relatable terms. She clarified that mental health is not merely the absence of illness but encompasses emotional well-being, effective coping strategies, and overall life balance.

Addressing common challenges faced by students in rigorous academic settings, she spoke about issues such as performance pressure, burnout, feelings of isolation, and self-doubt. She emphasized how, if ignored, these concerns could gradually impact concentration, motivation, interpersonal relationships, and self-esteem.

The session underscored the importance of emotional regulation, peer support, and fostering open communication as tools for managing everyday stress. A key takeaway was the value of seeking help early, before challenges escalate, and utilizing the resources offered through the Jeevani program.

Encouraging students to cultivate a compassionate and supportive environment within their department, Ms. Noora concluded with a call to normalize conversations around mental health. The session was interactive and well-received, with active participation and genuine interest from students, who appreciated the opportunity to engage in an open and stigma-free discussion.
