The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Santhwanam Charitable Society, Muttom, conducted a charity programme for the inmates of “Pakalveedu”, a day-care centre that supports elderly individuals who experience loneliness and monotony in their old age. Pakalveedu, managed by the Santhwanam Charitable Society, provides care for about 25 inmates, offering transportation, food, medicines, and other essential services.
As part of this
initiative, the department arranged the sale of products prepared by the
society during the Onam season. Each packet contained traditional delicacies
such as banana chips, kalikadakka, murukku, chakkavaratti, and pakkavada. The
department purchased 50 packets from the society and placed them for sale in
the college.
The sale was formally inaugurated when the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev S.R handed over the first packet to the Head of the Department, Smt. Sinumol S, marking the official beginning of the charity drive. Teachers and non-teaching staff enthusiastically supported the cause, with many purchasing multiple packets. The sale was conducted from August 25 to 29, 2025 and the department faculty members Smt. Renjini S., Dr. Dhanya Shajin, and Sri. Sivaprasad P.S., actively participated by buying and promoting the products, while Sri. M.K. Sreenivasan efficiently coordinated the entire event. The sale received an excellent response, and the total amount collected was handed over to the Secretary, Santhwanam Charitable Society, Muttom.
Students of the
Department of Mathematics also contributed by donating to the charity box of
the society placed in the department. This social service activity aimed to
instill values of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility among
students, helping them understand the importance of serving humanity and
becoming responsible citizens.
