In an era dominated by keyboards and touchscreens, the timeless art of penmanship took center stage at T.K. Madhava Memorial College. On July 10, 2026, at 1:30 PM, the Department of English hosted a captivating Handwriting Competition exclusively for first-year undergraduate students.
The event aimed to celebrate the beauty of written text and encourage newcomers to take pride in their unique styles under the inspiring theme, "Unleash Your Hand's True Eloquence!"
The classroom was filled with focused silence as enthusiastic first-years put pen to paper. The rules were simple yet demanding, designed to test the ultimate precision of the students:
Participants were given a standard, unruled A4 sheet.
A strict time limit of 30 minutes was enforced to transcribe the official passage completely.
Writers had the choice between consistent Cursive or Print scripts using only blue or black ink.
The ultimate test? No rulers or pencils were permitted for guidelines—forcing participants to rely entirely on their natural ability to maintain straight lines and uniform margins.
The competition, titled “Unleash Your Hand’s True
Eloquence!”, aimed to promote careful writing, creativity and attention to
presentation among first-year students. In an age increasingly dominated by
digital communication, the programme highlighted the continuing importance of
handwriting as a means of personal expression and discipline. 8 students
participated in the competition.
The participants enthusiastically took part in the
competition and demonstrated considerable interest in the art of handwriting.
The activity provided a platform for students to exhibit their individual
writing styles while maintaining clarity, neatness and artistic presentation.
It also encouraged students to develop patience, concentration and a sense of
appreciation for written language.
The initiative of the Department of English received positive
participation from the students and contributed to creating an engaging
academic environment beyond the regular classroom. The competition also
reflected the department’s effort to nurture language-related skills and
creative expression among first-year learners.
The programme concluded successfully, leaving the participants with a renewed appreciation for the beauty and importance of handwritten communication. The Handwriting Competition thus served as a meaningful and engaging activity that combined language, creativity and cultural appreciation. The winners of the competition are Abhijith Shaji (S1 Physics, I Prize), Adwaith A V (S1 Physics II Prize), and Lakshmi B (S1 Maths III Prize).
