Christmas celebrations @ Department of Mathematics

 

The Department of Mathematics celebrated Christmas on 23 December 2025 with great joy, unity, and festive spirit. The celebration created a warm and cheerful atmosphere within the department and brought together students and faculty members in the true spirit of Christmas.

The department was beautifully decorated with Christmas stars, colourful streamers, balloons, lights, and festive ornaments reflecting the joy and beauty of the season. Students enthusiastically wore red and white dresses along with Christmas hats, making the entire department vibrant and visually attractive. The colourful decorations and festive arrangements transformed the department into a lively Christmas celebration venue filled with happiness and excitement.

The celebration began with a warm gathering of students and faculty members. Christmas carols added a melodious and spiritual charm to the programme, spreading messages of peace, love, hope, kindness, and togetherness. The students actively participated in singing carols and enjoyed the festive atmosphere with great enthusiasm.

One of the major highlights of the programme was the Christmas cake cutting ceremony. The beautifully arranged Christmas cake symbolized sharing, unity, and celebration. Students and faculty members shared cake and sweets with one another, creating joyful moments filled with laughter, friendship, and happiness.

The programme also included informal gatherings, cheerful interactions, photography sessions, music, and fun-filled moments that strengthened the bond among students and teachers. The celebration provided students with an opportunity to relax, interact freely, and enjoy the festive spirit together beyond classroom activities.

Faculty members Dr. Dhanya Shajin and Smt. Renjini S actively participated in the celebration and guided the students with great enthusiasm and pleasure throughout the programme. Their presence and encouragement added warmth and happiness to the occasion and motivated the students to celebrate the event in a meaningful and organized manner.

The Christmas celebration beautifully reflected the values associated with the festival — love, sharing, compassion, harmony, unity, and joy. The smiling faces, festive decorations, colourful costumes, Christmas hats, and cheerful participation of everyone made the programme truly memorable and heartwarming.

The celebration concluded with happy memories and a spirit of togetherness among all participants. The Christmas Celebration 2025 became a joyful and unforgettable occasion for the Department of Mathematics, filling the department with positivity, friendship, celebration, and festive cheer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anantham – National Mathematics Day Outreach Programme

 

Seventeen students from the Department of Mathematics, along with the Head of the Department, Smt. Sinumol S, and faculty members Dr. Dhanya Shajin , Sri. M. K. Sreenivasan, and Sri. Abhilash Y, reached the school by 1:00 PM. The programme received excellent support from the school authorities, and the Headmistress, Mrs. Ambili A, arranged all the necessary facilities for the smooth conduct of the event.

 

The programme commenced with a prayer and a warm welcome by the students of  VII standard. This was followed by an introductory address by Smt. Sinumol S, who explained the significance of National Mathematics Day and emphasized the relevance of mathematics in daily life. The student coordinators, Sreelekshmi S. and Amal Krishnan A, from second-year B.Sc. Mathematics then briefed the participants about the rules and regulations of the various mathematical puzzles and games planned for the programme.

 

 

 

A total of 25 students from VII standard actively participated in the programme. They were divided into five groups named Triangle, Square, Cuboid, Hexagon, and Circle, based on their interests. This grouping encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and healthy competition among the participants.

 

 

 

 

A PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Malavika M. and Aiswarya S., first-year B.Sc. Mathematics students. The presentation highlighted the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the reason for celebrating his birthday as National Mathematics Day, and the importance of mathematics in daily life. This session helped familiarise the students with Ramanujan and created enthusiasm and interest in mathematics.

 

 

The programme was aptly titled “Anantham,” meaning infinity, which reflected the boundless nature of mathematics and its endless possibilities. The interactive sessions began with matchstick puzzles, where team representatives enthusiastically attempted to solve the problems. Whenever required, clear explanations were provided by the programme coordinators Sreelekshmi S. and Amal Krishnan A.

 

 

This was followed by mathematical riddles that encouraged logical reasoning and critical thinking. These activities were explained and guided by Fathima K. H., Sivani S. from first year, and Amrutha Sajeev from second year. The most engaging activity of the programme was mathematical bingo, which generated great excitement among the students. The rules and procedures of the game were clearly explained by Karthik V. Krishna from first year.

 

 

Later, images of various famous mathematicians were displayed using a projector. Students attempted to identify them, and their contributions were explained by Aliya Muhammed Habeeb and Madhav Pradeep from second-year B.Sc. Mathematics. This session helped broaden the students’ knowledge about the vast contributions of mathematicians across different periods.

 

 

During the feedback session, the students expressed that the programme was a novel, enjoyable, and enriching experience. They shared their happiness and stated that the activities helped them view mathematics as an interesting and enjoyable subject rather than a difficult one. Also, the students expressed their desire for the team to visit again with similar nurturing programmes in the future.

 

 

Based on the overall performance, Team Hexagon secured the first prize, Team Cuboid won the second prize, and Team Triangle won the third prize. Prizes were distributed to all members of the winning teams, and consolation prizes were also given to the remaining participants to encourage and appreciate their efforts.

 

 

 

 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and came to an end at 3:30 PM. The outreach programme “Anantham” was a grand success and effectively conveyed the spirit of National Mathematics Day. Such outreach initiatives play a significant role in nurturing interest in mathematics, strengthening conceptual understanding, and motivating school students towards learning.

Campus Cleaning Drive: "Plastic Free Campus" organized by NSS UNIT No. 39A & B, TKMMC

 

 

 Committed to environmental sustainability and campus hygiene, NSS Unit No. 39 A & B organized a comprehensive campus cleaning drive. The primary objective of this initiative was to take actionable steps toward transforming the institution into a "Plastic Free Campus."

NSS volunteers actively participated in the drive, fanning out across the college grounds to collect scattered debris, dry leaves, and specifically targeting plastic waste. Equipped with gloves and collection sacks, the students worked collaboratively to clear the campus pathways, grassy areas, and surroundings.

This hands-on initiative not only resulted in a visibly cleaner and greener college environment but also played a crucial role in instilling a deep sense of civic responsibility and environmental consciousness among the student body. The drive successfully reinforced the importance of proper waste disposal and the urgent need to minimize plastic usage in everyday academic life.

World AIDS Day Observance and Pledge 2025

 

In observance of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2025, NSS Unit No. 39 A & B  organized a dedicated awareness and sensitization program. The initiative aimed to educate the student community about HIV/AIDS, promote preventative measures, and strongly advocate for the eradication of the social stigma associated with the disease. The core message of the campaign was to "Hate AIDS, but be sensitive and supportive to those suffering from it."

 A central part of the observance was a solemn pledge taken by the students and NSS volunteers. Gathering in the college premises, the participants stood with their hands raised, embodying the theme: "Voices united. Hands raised. A pledge for an AIDS-free tomorrow." This collective oath served as a powerful reminder of the youth's role in combating the epidemic, fostering a supportive environment for affected individuals, and committing to responsible health practices.

A big thank you to our dignitaries—Smt. K. Ponnamma, Dr. Venu S, and Sri Murali Kathoor—for gracing the inaugural session. We were honored to have Dr. Arun S Prasad, Asst. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara on 12.08.2025 in connection with National Space Day  (NSpD- 2025) organised by Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO) in association with the PG and Research Department of Physics.

           

               

 

 5.     Karthik V Krishna, S₁ Mathematics won the FIRST prize in the quiz competition organized by the PG and Research department of Physics (Supported by DST FIST) as part of the International Moon Day Celebrations on July 25,2025.

           

 

6.     Madhav Pradeep, S₃ Mathematics won the SECOND prize in the quiz competition organized by the PG and Research department of Physics (Supported by DST FIST) as part of the International Moon Day Celebrations on July 25,2025.

   Sivani S, S₁ Mathematics won the FIRST prize in the nature photography contest organized by the department of English as part of the World Nature Conservation Day on July 28,2025.

 

                                        

8.     Parvathy Madhu, S3 Mathematics, received recognition on Merit Day organized by the P.G. and Research Department of Physics for securing the first position in the Physics course of the S₁ and S₂ FYUGP examinations.

 

                

 

9.     Heera, S₅ Mathematics, received recognition on Merit Day organized by the P.G. and Research Department of Physics for securing the first position in the Physics course of the S₁, S₂ and S₃ CBCSS  examinations.

                      

 

 

10.  Chaithanya S. received a certificate and shield for being the topper in the B.Sc. Mathematics course (2022–2025). She was honoured during the Merit Day organized by the college on 07 November 2025.

 

 

11.  A Power Quiz was conducted on 6 November 2025 by the P.G. and Research Department of Physics, in association with the KSEB Officers’ Association, at 1.00 p.m. in the college seminar hall. Madhav Pradeep, S3 Mathematics, secured a position among the top five performers in the competition.
