The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry at TKMM College ushered in the holiday season with an exuberant Christmas celebration, combining traditional festivities with the unique charm of chemistry enthusiasts. The event, held on December 25th, was a delightful amalgamation of cake cutting, carol singing, and creative expressions, bringing together students and staff in a joyous celebration of Christmas spirit.







The chemistry department was transformed into a festive haven, adorned with twinkling lights, festive decorations, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. The ambiance radiated warmth and holiday cheer, creating the perfect backdrop for the celebratory activities.

The celebration commenced with a ceremonial cake cutting, a symbol of unity and shared joy. Dr. Smitha T R, Head of the chemistry department, led the proceedings, emphasizing the significance of coming together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas within the academic community.

The air resonated with the melodious sounds of Christmas carols as students and staff gathered for a heart-warming session of carol singing. The chemistry enthusiasts showcased their musical talents, infusing the celebration with a sense of harmony and festive cheer. Additionally, the event featured special musical performances by students and staff members, adding a personal touch to the celebration.













Students, known for their creativity, engaged in a hands-on activity by crafting Christmas stars. The department witnessed a burst of artistic expressions as students meticulously crafted intricate stars, contributing to the festive decor. The Christmas tree, adorned with these unique stars and traditional ornaments, stood as a symbol of the department's shared creativity and festive spirit.

The highlight of the gathering was the sumptuous Christmas lunch, a carefully curated spread featuring a variety of dishes to cater to diverse tastes. From traditional Christmas roasts to vegetarian delights and indulgent desserts, the menu was designed to offer a culinary journey that resonated with the festive season's flavors. In the true spirit of unity and festive cheer, the staff of TKMM College gathered for a memorable Christmas celebration, expertly organized by the diligent members of the Staff Association. This joyous occasion, filled with laughter, music, and shared merriment, underscored the strong sense of community and camaraderie that defines the institution.

Under the meticulous management of the Staff Association, the college premises transformed into a festive wonderland. Christmas decorations, including twinkling lights, ornaments, and seasonal embellishments, created an enchanting ambiance that set the stage for a joyous celebration.




The focal point of the celebration was the traditional cake cutting ceremony, overseen by Dr. P. P. Sharmila, our Principal and representative of the Staff Association. The beautifully adorned Christmas cake took center stage, symbolizing the unity and shared festivities of the TKMM College staff.

National Mathematics Day Celebrations 2023 - Math Marvel

The Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Science Club, orchestrated a captivating event on National Mathematics Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of the mathematical luminary, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar. The event, aptly named Math Marvel, unfolded its wonders on December 21, 2023, starting at 10:30 am.

The curtain lifted with a soul-stirring prayer by the department choir, setting the tone for a day of intellectual celebration. Mr.M.K. Sreenivasan, Asst. Prof. of  Mathematics, delivered a warm welcome speech, paving the way for Smt. Sinumol S, Asst Prof. of Mathematics, to present a compelling presidential address. Smt. Sinumol S. provided a concise yet inspirational overview of Ramanujan's life and his profound mathematical contributions, sparking motivation among the attendees.







Dr. P.P.  Sharmila, the esteemed Principal of the college, inaugurated the Math Marvel program, imparting wisdom by highlighting the symbiotic relationship between physical science and mathematical science. Dr. T. Sreeja, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. S. R. Rajeev, Head of Economics, added their commendations and motivational insights, emphasizing the significance of multidisciplinary subjects in the contemporary landscape. The vote of thanks resonated with gratitude, as Devachandana Sudheesh, a 2nd-year BSc Mathematics student, expressed appreciation on behalf of the participants.

 

At 11:00 am, the intellectual festivities continued with a Quiz program focused on the 'History of Mathematics and Famous Mathematicians,' masterfully conducted by Ambady Aravind, a 2nd-year BSc Mathematics student. Seven enthusiastic teams, each comprising two members, participated ardently. Abhay Anand and Malini M. (I BSc Zoology) secured the first prize, while Abhiraj R. and Devananda R.S (II B.A Economics) clinched the second prize. Office Superintendent Mr. Peethambaran awarded the trophies, commending the participants for their prowess.












The cultural spectrum unfolded at 12:30 pm, featuring musical talents from the Mathematics department. Ambady Aravind commenced with a melodious Malayalam song, followed by Chaithanya S and Lekshmi S rendering a popular Malayalam campus love song. Sneha and Anandu B showcased their singing talents, creating a refreshing ambiance for the audience.






The climax of the day unfolded at 2:00 pm with the commencement of the treasure hunt. Eight groups, each comprising two members from various departments, engaged in a captivating quest that involved clue searching and a series of intriguing tasks. Adithyan L.S.  from the II B.A. English emerged victorious, uncovering the treasure. Principal Dr. P.P. Sharmila presented him with a trophy, marking the culmination of a day filled with intellectual challenges and camaraderie.

 





The collaborative efforts of the organizing team garnered high praise from the authorities, etching Math Marvel into the annals of the college's history as a standout celebration of National Mathematics Day.


Successful Cake Sale for Charity by TKMM College in 

Collaboration with Swanthanam Charitable Trust

In a heartfelt endeavor to make a meaningful impact on the lives of cancer and kidney patients, TKMM College joined hands with Swanthanam Charitable Trust, Muttam for a Cake Sale for Charity. The event, inaugurated by Dr. P. P. Sharmila, the esteemed Principal, unfolded as a remarkable example of compassionate community engagement. This collaborative initiative not only aimed to delight taste buds but also to raise substantial funds to support those battling cancer and kidney diseases.

The meticulous planning and execution of the event were spearheaded by a dedicated team comprising Sri M. K. Sreenivasan, Assistant Professor on Contact, Department of Mathematics, other faculty members, and volunteers from both TKMM College and Swanthanam Charitable Trust. This joint effort demonstrated the spirit of unity and shared responsibility towards societal well-being.

The event saw active participation from notable figures, including Dr. T. Sreeja, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. S. R. Rajeev, HoD, Economics and Dr. Smitha T. R., HoD, Chemistry. Their presence added an academic and administrative perspective to the charity drive, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility within the educational community. The office superintendent, Sri. Peethambaran,  a crucial administrative figure, also actively participated in the event, further showcasing the comprehensive support from the college administration.






The proceeds from the cake sale were earmarked to benefit cancer and kidney patients through Swanthanam Charitable Trust. The decision to focus on these specific health concerns demonstrated a thoughtful approach, aiming to address critical medical needs and contribute to the well-being of those facing these challenging conditions.

The event witnessed a remarkable financial success, with cakes worth Rs. 10,000 sold as part of the charity initiative. This considerable sum reflected the generosity and support of the TKMM College community, emphasizing the collective commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

The cake sale not only served as a fundraising initiative but also fostered a sense of community engagement. Students, faculty members, and administrative staff actively participated in the event, either by volunteering their time or contributing through purchases.
