Mathematics Day Celebrations 2023 - Math Marvel

The Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the
Science Club, orchestrated a captivating event on National Mathematics Day,
commemorating the birth anniversary of the mathematical luminary, Srinivasa
Ramanujan Iyengar. The event, aptly named Math Marvel, unfolded its wonders on
December 21, 2023, starting at 10:30 am.
The curtain lifted with a soul-stirring prayer by the
department choir, setting the tone for a day of intellectual celebration. Mr.M.K. Sreenivasan, Asst. Prof. of Mathematics,
delivered a warm welcome speech, paving the way for Smt. Sinumol S, Asst Prof.
of Mathematics, to present a compelling presidential address. Smt. Sinumol S. provided a concise yet inspirational overview of Ramanujan's life and his
profound mathematical contributions, sparking motivation among the attendees.
Dr. P.P. Sharmila, the esteemed Principal of the
college, inaugurated the Math Marvel program, imparting wisdom by highlighting
the symbiotic relationship between physical science and mathematical science.
Dr. T. Sreeja, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. S. R. Rajeev, Head of Economics, added
their commendations and motivational insights, emphasizing the significance of
multidisciplinary subjects in the contemporary landscape. The vote of thanks
resonated with gratitude, as Devachandana Sudheesh, a 2nd-year BSc Mathematics
student, expressed appreciation on behalf of the participants.
At 11:00 am, the intellectual festivities continued with
a Quiz program focused on the 'History of Mathematics and Famous
Mathematicians,' masterfully conducted by Ambady Aravind, a 2nd-year BSc
Mathematics student. Seven enthusiastic teams, each comprising two members,
participated ardently. Abhay Anand and Malini M. (I BSc Zoology) secured the
first prize, while Abhiraj R. and Devananda R.S (II B.A Economics) clinched the
second prize. Office Superintendent Mr. Peethambaran awarded the trophies,
commending the participants for their prowess.
The cultural spectrum unfolded at 12:30 pm, featuring
musical talents from the Mathematics department. Ambady Aravind commenced with
a melodious Malayalam song, followed by Chaithanya S and Lekshmi S rendering a
popular Malayalam campus love song. Sneha and Anandu B showcased their singing
talents, creating a refreshing ambiance for the audience.
The climax of the day unfolded at 2:00 pm with the
commencement of the treasure hunt. Eight groups, each comprising two members
from various departments, engaged in a captivating quest that involved clue
searching and a series of intriguing tasks. Adithyan L.S. from the II B.A. English emerged victorious,
uncovering the treasure. Principal Dr. P.P. Sharmila presented him with a
trophy, marking the culmination of a day filled with intellectual challenges
and camaraderie.
The collaborative efforts of the organizing team
garnered high praise from the authorities, etching Math Marvel into the annals
of the college's history as a standout celebration of National Mathematics Day.
