‘Ellarum Chollanu’-Recitation by Everyone!
Reading Day Celebrations 2023, Department of Mathematics (19.06.2023)
The Department of
Mathematics marked Reading Day with an engaging program titled 'Ellarum
Chollanu' - Recitation by Everyone. This event, held on June 19, 2023,
encouraged all participants to recite at least four lines of a poem in any
language of their choice.
The program, aptly named,
aimed to create a harmonious and enriching session where every participant had
the opportunity to express themselves through poetry. The benefits of such an
exercise are manifold. Through recitation, students fine-tuned their
close-reading skills, honed their public-speaking and listening abilities, and
enhanced their focus and memory. It's worth noting that engaging in these
mental activities has even been shown to improve overall brain function.
The event commenced with a heartfelt prayer, setting the tone for a meaningful gathering. Mrs. Renjini S, Head of the Department, extended a warm welcome to all attendees by reciting famous verses by Robert Frost, both in English and Malayalam. The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Principal, Dr. P. P. Sharmila, who inaugurated the proceedings with her own recitations of poems.
Further enriching the
event were the contributions of Dr. T. Sreeja, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. M. Preeth,
Head of the Department of Statistics, and Mrs. Sinumol S, a faculty member of
the Department of Mathematics, all of whom shared their poetic talents.
One of the most
remarkable aspects of this event was the enthusiastic participation of the
students. They wholeheartedly embraced the challenge and came forward to recite
poems in various languages. This showcased their courage, versatility, and the
diverse linguistic skills within the student body.
Ultimately, the
'Ellarum Chollanu' program aimed to nurture students' ability to engage
confidently with an audience, using appropriate body language and demeanor
while retaining a natural and authentic presence. By celebrating the beauty of
poetry and the art of recitation, the event not only enriched the intellectual
and creative lives of participants but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and
appreciation for the spoken word.
