Graduate Department of Chemistry
The PG Department of Chemistry organized a vibrant and
informative awareness campaign in celebration of World Ozone Day on September
15, 2023. The event aimed to educate and engage students and staff in
understanding the significance of preserving the ozone layer and addressing
climate change.
The event commenced with the gracious presence of Dr.
P. P. Sharmila, our esteemed Principal, inaugurated the campaign. Her presence
added prestige to the event, emphasizing the institution's commitment to
environmental awareness.
Dr. T. Sreeja, IQAC coordinator & Asst. Prof. of
Chemistry, delivered a warm and motivating welcome address. She highlighted the
importance of World Ozone Day and the role of the chemistry department in
spreading awareness about environmental issues.
A highlight of the event was the concept talk
delivered by Ms. Aparna S, a dedicated 1st-year BSc Chemistry student. Ms.
Aparna eloquently discussed the science behind ozone depletion, its
consequences on climate change, and the collective responsibility of society to
combat this issue. Her informative talk resonated with the audience, inspiring
them to take action. To engage the student body actively, pluck cards with
informative messages and slogans related to ozone layer preservation were
displayed by students. This visual representation served as a powerful tool to
convey the message and inspire reflection.
Students and faculty members conducted class-wise
awareness sessions across all departments to ensure maximum reach. These
sessions were interactive and involved discussions on the importance of the
ozone layer, the impact of human activities, and the need for collective action.
The campaign aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and environmental
consciousness among all participants.
The campaign was enthusiastically attended by Dr.
Satheesh Kumar, Asst. Prof. of Political Science, Dr. Sheela S, Head,
Department of Zoology & Dr. Tintu R, CLMC convenor & Asst. Prof. of
Physics. The event was well coordinated by teachers of the department including
Saneesh Kumar N., Savitha E. V., Dr. Divya Dinesh, Deepthi S., Thushara Bhadran
& Lekshmi V.
The World Ozone Day Awareness Campaign organized by
the PG Department of Chemistry was a resounding success. It provided a platform
for students and staff to come together, learn about the importance of
preserving the ozone layer, and discuss practical steps to combat climate
change. The campaign's interactive approach and class-wise sessions ensured
that the message reached a wide audience, fostering a sense of environmental
responsibility and awareness.
The support and active participation of the attendees,
including the Principal, faculty members, and students, demonstrated the
commitment of the institution to environmental conservation. The event
concluded on a positive note, with the hope that such initiatives will continue
to raise awareness and inspire action on pressing environmental issues.
