QUIZ MATH - A Quiz Competition in Commemoration of

World Ozone Day

Department of Mathematics (14 Spetember 2023)

World Ozone Day, celebrated on September 16th each year, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving the Earth's ozone layer. This year's theme, "Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change," underscores the critical role of the ozone layer in combating climate change. In honor of this occasion, the Department of Mathematics at [Your University Name] organized a quiz competition named "QUIZ MATH." The competition not only tested students' knowledge of ozone-related topics but also encouraged engagement with current environmental affairs.

The inauguration ceremony of QUIZ MATH commenced at 10 am with a solemn prayer, setting a thoughtful and reflective tone for the day. Sinumol S, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, welcomed the participants, guests, and faculty members to the event. Her words set the stage for an intellectually stimulating competition that combined mathematical and environmental acumen.

The program received an esteemed presence in the form of Dr. P. P. Sharmila, the respected Principal of [Your University Name], who delivered a presidential address. Dr. Sharmila's insightful words highlighted the urgency of addressing ozone layer depletion and its implications on climate change. She then officially inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young minds to be environmentally conscious.

The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Sreeja T, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Sheela S, Head of Department of Zoology, who provided their insights and support towards the event's success.

Competition Details:

The event was impeccably hosted by Athira S, a student of III B.Sc. Mathematics, who demonstrated her expertise as the quiz master. Mathematics faculties, M.K. Sreenivasan and Sreya R, provided valuable guidance to the students throughout the event, ensuring its smooth progression.

Teams from eight different departments, including English, Economics, B.Com. CA, B.Com. TT, Physics, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, and Zoology, enthusiastically participated in the competition. The quiz comprised three rounds, each progressively more engaging and challenging, touching upon topics related to the ozone layer, climate change, and environmental conservation.

Winners and Recognition:

After a spirited competition, the first position was secured by Rajalekshmi R and Devika S Krishnan from III B.Sc. Zoology, showcasing their in-depth knowledge of environmental issues. The second and third positions were clinched by Devanandini Seema Hari & Pravanya P from II B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, and Vishnu Premjith & Abhishek S from II B.Sc. Physics, respectively.

In the spirit of celebrating participation and encouraging environmental awareness, consolation prizes were awarded to all participants as tokens of appreciation.

Conclusion:

The QUIZ MATH competition on World Ozone Day was a resounding success, achieving its goal of fostering environmental awareness and encouraging intellectual engagement with critical global issues. The active participation of students from various departments showcased the collective commitment of our institution towards environmental sustainability. As we commemorate World Ozone Day, events like QUIZ MATH serve as a testament to our dedication to addressing environmental challenges and nurturing informed future leaders.

The prizes were distributed to the winners by Dr. P. P. Sharmila, the Principal, adding prestige and motivation to the event. It is our hope that this event will inspire continued efforts to protect the ozone layer and combat climate change.
