The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Club of T.K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara, organised the inauguration of the club on 11th August 2026 at 11.00 AM in the Seminar Hall of the college. The programme was organised with the objective of introducing students to the rich and diverse knowledge traditions of India and promoting awareness of indigenous knowledge, traditional healthcare practices and sustainable living.
The programme commenced with the Welcome Speech delivered by Smt. Parvathy A. V., IKS Club Coordinator. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Venu S., Principal of the College, who highlighted the relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems in contemporary education and the importance of preserving and transmitting traditional knowledge to younger generations.
The IKS Club was formally inaugurated by Dr. Ganga B. S., Retd. Senior Medical Officer, Department of Indian Medical System. In her inaugural address, she spoke about the significance of India's traditional knowledge, particularly indigenous healthcare practices and the relevance of medicinal plants in maintaining health and well-being. Dr. Aswathy S. P., IQAC Coordinator, delivered the felicitation address. She appreciated the initiative of establishing the IKS Club and emphasised the role of such activities in creating awareness among students about India's traditional knowledge heritage.
A major highlight of the programme was the introduction and planting of medicinal plants associated with the traditional knowledge system. Students and faculty members actively participated in the planting activity, providing them with practical exposure to the identification, preservation and significance of indigenous medicinal plants. The activity also reinforced the importance of environmental sustainability and the traditional practice of using locally available plants for health and well-being.
The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members. The event provided an effective platform for creating awareness about India's rich intellectual, cultural, environmental and healthcare traditions.
The inauguration of the IKS Club marked an important step towards encouraging students to explore and appreciate India's traditional knowledge heritage while understanding its relevance in contemporary life. The practical planting activity further strengthened students' awareness of indigenous medicinal plants, environmental sustainability and traditional healthcare practices.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Aliya Muhammad Habeeb, Student Convenor and Vice Chairperson of the IKS Club. She expressed gratitude to the Principal, resource person, IQAC Coordinator, faculty members, students and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
