Unveiling the Past: A Historical Odyssey at 'Darshan' Seminar Series

As a part of the Darshan seminar series '24 at TK Madhava Memorial College, the Department of History organized an enlightening session titled "Uncovering the Past: Exploring Daily Life from a Historical Perspective."

Dr. SAKHARIYA T, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of History at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, took the stage, providing a comprehensive exploration of the origin and evolution of history. He emphasized that history transcends the mere collection of facts, quoting EH Carr: "The historian without his facts is rootless and futile; the facts without their historian are dead and meaningless." Dr. SAKHARIYA beautifully portrayed history as a continuous dialogue between the present and the past, with historians serving as guides and interpreters.

Adding a personal touch to the discourse, Chandini, a former student of the college, shared her journey through art, science, and history. Her talk delved into the intrinsic connection between history and art, showcasing paintings from various genres and introducing painting styles like Pattachitra, Madhubani, Kalighat, Padmapani, and traditional Kerala murals. Chandini's interdisciplinary approach, as demonstrated through the art collective 'Silaksha Stories,' highlighted the synthesis of emotions into diverse art forms.

Principal Dr. PP Sharmila delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary learning for creating continuous and informed learners. The event, coordinated by HOD and Assistant Professor Preetha MV, witnessed felicitation from HOD of the Economics Department Dr. SR Rajeev, Dr. Satheeshkumar N, and PTA Secretary, Assistant Professor from the Department of Political Science.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Smt. Sarsha T S, Assistant Professor in English and Aishwarya L, Devananda RS, and Amar Krishna, Second BA Economics students, skillfully compered the event. The totality of the seminar showcased the students' heightened awareness of the relevance of a historical approach and the significance of multidisciplinary learning.
