 Asan Smrithi: Commemorating the Death 

Centenary of Kumaran Asan

In a poignant tribute to literary luminary Kumaran Asan, on the solemn occasion of his 100th death aanniversary, a 100-day commemoration programme, which includes mainly a series of lectures based on the works of the great poet, kick-started on January 17, 2024 at the quaint village of Kumarakodi near Pallana. 

It was organized by the Department of Culture, Government of Kerala, & Kumaranasan National Institute of Culture. A M Arif, MP inaugurated the commemoration meeting at 10 am. Dr A M Siddique, Director, Sree Narayana Guru International Study Centre, spoke on the topic ‘Asan Kavithakalude Samakaleena Prasakthi’ (the relevance of Asan’s works in modern times), and Dr. P. P. Sharmila, Principal, T. K. M. M. College, on ‘Asan Kavithakalile Sthree’ (the focus of woman in Asan’s poems).




Faculty from the department of Malayalam & Hindi, Smt. Lekha K V, Smt. Mini R & Sri. Abhilash Y. also participated in the function.

    The commemoration of Kumaran Asan's death centenary through Asan Smrithi serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the poet and the importance of preserving and celebrating the cultural treasures that shape the identity of Kerala.
