 Seminar on Transgender Welfare: Addressing Inequality and

Advocating for Change

In a progressive step towards fostering inclusivity and understanding, the Social Justice Cell of T. K. Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara, in association with the Department of Social Justice, Alappuzha, organized a one-day seminar on Transgender Welfare on 21st February 2024. The seminar served as a platform to shed light on the various challenges faced by the transgender community, particularly focusing on their inequality in society and workplaces.

 The event commenced at 10:30 a.m. with a warm welcome address by Lt. Smt. Seena V., setting the tone for the day's discussions. The dignitaries present on the dais included Dr. Sharmila P. P., the Principal of TKMM College; Dr. Vinod C., Assistant Professor of Commerce and Nodal Officer of the Social Justice Cell; Sri. Nithin, a respected Resource Person; Sri. Siva Karthik C, a Transgender Representative; and Smt. Saleena M. from the Social Justice Department.

 











Dr. Sharmila P. P., in her opening remarks and keynote address, highlighted the importance of understanding and addressing the issues faced by the transgender community. She emphasized the college's commitment to promoting inclusivity and equality for all.

The seminar included a session by Sri. Nithin, the Resource Person, who emphasized the urgent need for protection and welfare measures for transgender individuals. His insights into the challenges faced by the community served as an eye-opener for many attendees, prompting them to reflect on their own perceptions and biases.

A particularly impactful segment of the seminar was the interaction with Sri. Siva Karthik C, the Transgender Representative, who bravely shared his personal experiences of discrimination and challenges faced in the workplace and society. His candid sharing deeply resonated with the audience, highlighting the urgency of creating a more inclusive and supportive environment.

 Dr. Vinod C., the Social Justice Nodal Officer, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the participants, organizers, and speakers for their valuable contributions. He reiterated the college's commitment to continuing such initiatives to promote social justice and equality.

 The seminar on Transgender Welfare was not just an event; it was a step towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate society. It served as a reminder of the importance of empathy, understanding, and advocacy in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.
